There are times in life when people ask you what you want. These are not random individuals who have no connection to you. These questions come from a relationship between the person asking the question and the person who gives the answer. At times, we don’t know exactly what we want and so the response might be I will get back to you.
Recently, I was reading 2 Chronicles 1. It was not the first time but as I read it, but I paused when I read verse 7. That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” (2 Chronicles 1:7 NLT). I wondered what my answer would have been. So, that question occupied my thoughts for a while. Then I realized that I needed to change my focus and not ponder on the question but look at Solomon’s actions that generated that question from God. When I looked at the preceding verses, I noticed that Solomon, the new king, gathered the leaders and led them to the place of worship. Next, he took the time to seek the Lord; then offered sacrifices to God. At the end of the day, God asked him the question.
Now this is the time for self-examination. Solomon was a young king new to the throne, but his focus was honoring God with his actions. We have seen that the people did whatever the king did, and Solomon honored God. As a result, God honored Solomon with an unusual question. I understand that we have become a name it and claim it generation, but if we want to walk in God’s best, we need to honor God with our lives. When we do, we will experience God’s best for us.
