When I was a child, we were taught prayers. We had a prayer to repeat before meals and one to say before bed. It became part of who we were and what we did. As I got older, I realized that prayer is more than some words children learned from adults; prayer is communication between God and man.
The question is, what do we talk to God about? Well, when the Apostle Paul was giving Timothy directives, he gave him some instructions about prayer. “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT). First, we must pray for all people. It does not differentiate; we must pray for everybody.
Also, we need to pray for our leaders. This is extremely important. It doesn’t say pray for those we like; we need to pray for those in authority. God has connected our prayers for our leaders to how we live. When we pray for them, we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. Pray is not to change God’s mind. Instead, prayer teaches us to align our will with God’s will. In other words, not my will, but Your will be done.
Thought for Today: Friend, let’s be obedient and pray.
