A Promise Kept

When your life is in danger and you need help, you are grateful for the hand that reaches out and helps you. In your moment of need, you don’t inquire about the reputation of the person offering to help you when that person stands between you and sure death. When help was given, a promise was made.

Joshua sent two men to gather information about Jericho. Their presence became known, and they were wanted men. They were as good as dead, but Rahab intervened and saved their lives. As a result, she asked them to spare her life and the lives of her family members when Jericho was destroyed. Stephen Covey said, “Integrity is conforming reality to our words – in other words, keeping promises and fulfilling expectations.”

Joshua 6:17 NLT says, “Jericho and everything in it must be completely destroyed as an offering to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and the others in her house will be spared, for she protected our spies.” The spies did not allow Rahab’s lifestyle to dictate their response. They walked in integrity, and her life was spared. They  kept their promise.

Thought for Today: Friend, keep your promise.
