A Promise Remembered

What do you do when you have a situation so heart breaking and you cannot see a solution anywhere? You spend time with God and pray desperate prayers; sometimes, you even make a promise to God. You tell God that if He does this, they you will do that. What do you do when God gives you your request and it’s time for you to do your part?

Hannah prayed and God answered. You see, Hannah entered a covenant with God; And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.” (1 Samuel 1:11 NLT). Hannah did not forget her promise. When the child was old enough, she took him to the Temple. She spoke to the priest and reminded him about their meeting years before and told him about her vow. She said, “Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.” (Verse 28).

Hannah is an example of an individual who stood by the vow she made to God. When you make  a vow, care must be taken to fulfill that vow. (Deuteronomy 23:21). Hannah did not hesitate; she lovingly prepared her son for life in the service of the Lord. Hannah’s son was the prophet, Samuel.

Thought for Today: Friend, don’t make a vow to God and not fulfill it.
