At some time or another, we can feel unsafe. It is understandable if we feel that way when we are alone walking on the street at 2:00 am. But is it possible to feel unsafe in the middle of the day? What do you do when you feel unsafe and why is lack of safety an issue?
Safety is a basic need; it is not just for people with status and power. Dangerous situations trigger a reaction in our body and can also leave us with social and emotional problems. What do we do when faced with safety? We look to God! “God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 AMP). The dictionary tells us that a refuge is a shelter or protection from danger or distress. When we walk with God, He is our refuge; He is our place of protection from danger.
David was a man with many enemies; King Saul made it hos mission to take his life. David was hunted down like an animal, but he did not live in fear. He experienced the faithfulness of God, and he knew it as a deliverer. When David reflected on his victories he said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:1 NLT). This was not special favor just for David; it is available for everyone of us. When you experience God’s protection and deliverance, like David we can say: “Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:8).
Thought for Today: Friend, when you walk with God, He is your refuge.
