At some time or another, we can feel unsafe. It is understandable if we feel that way when we are alone walking on the street at 2:00 am. But is it possible to feel unsafe in the middle of the day? What do you do when you feel unsafe and why is lack of safety an issue?
Safety is a basic need; it is not just for people with status and power. Dangerous situations trigger a reaction in our body and can also leave us with social and emotional problems. What do we do when faced with safety? We look to God! “God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 AMP). The dictionary tells us that a refuge is a shelter or protection from danger or distress. When we walk with God, He is our refuge; He is our place of protection from danger.
David had many enemies, and King Saul was determined to kill him. Though he was hunted relentlessly, David did not live in fear. He had experienced God’s faithfulness and knew Him as his deliverer. Reflecting on God’s help, David said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:1 NLT). This promise was not for David alone; it is available to all of us. When we experience God’s protection and deliverance, we too can say, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:8).
Thought for Today: Friend, when you walk with God, He is your refuge.
