Conquering Fear!

What do you do when you are afraid? Many of us refuse to acknowledge that fear has invaded our life. We do our best to mask the turmoil on the inside side while we try to fool the world on the outside.

In Judges 6, we encounter Gideon, a man living in fear of the Midianities. He met the angel of the Lord who addressed him as a mighty hero. (Judges 6:12). After some discussion, Gideon understood that he was chosen to bring change in lives of his people. “The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.” (Judges 6:16 NLT). Gideon had his first assignment; he had to break down an altar for a false God. He continued to struggle with fear. Now, it was fear of the people. “So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord had commanded. But he did it at night because he was afraid of the other members of his father’s household and the people of the town.” (Verse 27).

Gideon was afraid but he didn’t allow that fear to paralyze him. He carried out his assignment at night; and he did what God asked him to do. One day, I found myself in front of a large crowd and fear gripped my heart. While I waited, I took a moment to pray; then I was able to say like the Apostle Paul, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13). It’s possible to conquer your fear.

Thought for Today: Friend, don’t allow fear to paralyze you.
