Jesus: Bread of Life!

Bread is a significant element of meals across numerous cultures worldwide.  It is present in homes of all economic backgrounds. And so, we break bread together; it is a symbol of fellowship and shows unity.

In Genesis, Abraham had visitors, he welcomed them and invited them to stay for a meal. So Abraham ran back to the tent and said to Sarah, “Hurry! Get three large measures of your best flour, knead it into dough, and bake some bread. (Genesis 18:6 NLT). Sharing bread with strangers was their way of showing hospitality. When Jesus walked the earth, bread was a staple in every home; it was a staple at every meal and necessary for life. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35).

Jesus did not mean that those who come to Him will never have to go to the bakery again to buy a loaf of bread. He was addressing the hunger of the soul that the bread from the oven cannot satisfy. People try to satisfy that hunger by searching for bread in all the wrong places. Money, status, power, or anything else will be useless. That is a hunger that only Jesus Christ can fill. If you invite Jesus Christ into your life, He will satisfy that hunger in your soul; He is the bread of life.

Thought for Today: Friend, Jesus is the only bread that satisfies the soul.
