Life Changing Words

Have you ever poured yourself into a project and the harder you worked the more things remained the same? Did you invest your time and finances, and you have nothing  to show for your effort? It could leave you feeling defeated.

Well, that was Peter’s experience in Luke 5. Peter was a fisherman by trade, so he did not drop his net anywhere. Modern day fishermen have sophisticated equipment that they use to enable them to be successful when they are out fishing. Peter, on the other hand, depended on lots of visual cues. They fished at night because night fishing made their nets less visible to the fish. On this night, the fish went everywhere except inside their nets. In the morning, they had nothing to show. As they were cleaning their nets, Jesus spoke to them: “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” (Luke 5:4 NLT). Peter obeyed and their catch was so big that his net began to tear. He called his partners and both boats were on the verge of sinking.

For Peter, this was a life-changing moment. What about you? Are you facing challenges that seem to grow harder the more you struggle? Jesus has a word for you. “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). One songwriter said it this way: Jesus knows all about our struggles, He will guide till the day is done; There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus– No, not one! no, not one! (Johnson Oatman, Jr.) He wrote this in 1895, and it is as relevant today as it was then. Jesus knows and He has a life changing word for you.

Thought for Today: Friend, trust Jesus in your struggles.
