Our beliefs shape our behavior. As we saw earlier, Saul of Tarsus acted on what he believed. He thought his views were right in the eyes of both the religious leaders and God. The religious leaders approved of his actions and continued to endorse and support him.
While traveling to Damascus on one of his missions, Saul had an encounter with Jesus Christ. “As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?’” (Acts 9:3–4 NLT). That encounter changed his life. He went from destroying those who preached the Good News to becoming one of its messengers; he went from being the hunter to becoming the hunted. Understandably, the believers did not welcome Saul at first because they doubted whether his conversion was genuine. His encounter with Jesus Christ changed his heart, and after his conversion, he began using his Greek name, Paul (Acts 13:9).
Today, the Good News still has the power to change lives. Some may wonder why they need to experience that change. They may believe that because they live good lives and help others, God must be pleased with them. But Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Good works cannot make anyone right with God. Romans 10:9 says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Jesus paid the price so you can receive salvation from God the Father. Accept His gift today.
Thought for Today: Friend: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life.” (John 3:36).
