A simple approach to problem solving is to define the problem, identify possible solutions, choose one, put it into action, and evaluate the results. Too often, as people of faith, we recognize the problem and the solution but fail to follow through with implementation.
As a result, many people continue to live with anxiety and fear. Dr. Harriet Lerner, a clinical psychologist, noted that we cannot heal, grow, or improve our lives, relationships, or behavior while denying the issues that cause us pain. In other words, we must first acknowledge where we are. Anxiety and fear are like bullies; we cannot stay silent in their presence. We must confront them with the Word of God. At the first sign of fear, declare: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT).
Next, acknowledge that you are not fighting these bullies alone. You can confront them because the Bible says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). Bullies do not give up easily, and fear wants you to believe you are alone. But God promises, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:3). When life seems uncertain and fear begins to rise, remember, “And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28). With God, we can overcome fear and anxiety.
Thought for Today: Friend, you must be willing to fight.
