As people of faith, we often talk about our walk with the Lord. We speak of our faith journey and believe we are on the right path. But our walk with God must go beyond our words; it must become a way of life.
Why is it important to make our walk with God a lifestyle? We are called to be the light of the world. Wherever people live, they understand light and darkness because each day has both daytime and nighttime. At night, we need light to move safely through our homes and communities. Light helps us see clearly and make wise decisions. In the same way, our light helps others see Christ living in us. “But if we live in the light in the same way that God is in the light, we have a relationship with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.” (1 John 1:7 GW).
Does this mean that once we begin walking in the light, we shine permanently? Our light needs daily attention. We cannot do this on our own; we must depend on God. A light bulb alone does not guarantee light. In the store, light bulbs sit in a box without shining. Light comes only when the bulb is taken home and placed in a socket. Even then, light is not guaranteed. If your house is connected to the power company, the bulb will shine. If the connection is broken, there is no light. In the same way, our light depends on our connection with the Lord. Stay connected and shine.
