Everything is about connection. Sometimes our connection is good, and everything is easy. Good connections make work easy; our calls are clear, our research is successful and we can share results through email. When we find ourselves in areas with faulty connections, it can have a negative impact on our lives.
Today, everyone has a cell phone, and every phone needs a tower to stay connected. If you travel outside a tower’s range, the connection is lost and the phone becomes ineffective. We are like cell phones: we shine only when we stay connected to Jesus. What happens when that connection becomes faulty? A faulty connection can be dangerous because it begins in the heart. Judas had a faulty connection. Although he was one of the twelve disciples, his connection was faulty because he loved money more than he loved Jesus. “Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.” (Matthew 25:14-15 NLT).
Judas’s greed broke his connection with Jesus. Perhaps he saw betrayal as a chance to make some money, believing Jesus would not allow Himself to be taken—but he was wrong. When the reality of his actions overwhelmed him, Judas returned to the same people with whom he had conspired and said, “I have sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed an innocent man.” “What do we care?” they retorted. “That’s your problem.” (Matthew 27:4). Overcome with grief, he hanged himself. Beware of faulty connections; they can be deadly.
