Seek God First!

Who or what holds first place in your life? It can be difficult to decide which person or relationship matters most. For people of faith, however, the answer should be clear: God comes first. I recently read posts from people whose partners put God first, and they struggled to accept that they were no longer the top priority in those partners’ lives.

Jesus made this clear in Matthew 6:33 NLT: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Unlike the countries of this world, God’s kingdom has no natural borders. God has set up his kingdom in heaven, and he rules the whole creation. (Psalm 103:19 CEV) God is in control; He is sovereign. To be sovereign is to possess supreme power and absolute authority, free from outside control. At times, we struggle to accept this. When a young woman I knew died suddenly, I could not accept it and kept asking God why. Ultimately, I had to acknowledge that God is sovereign.

After Nebuchadnezzar’s mind was restored following a period of living like an animal, he acknowledged in Daniel 4:34–35: His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’  Because God is the sovereign ruler of the universe, we must seek Him first.

Thought for Today: Friend, seek the Kingdom.
