Problems! No one can claim to be problem-free. Although we may wish to live without problems, life on earth guarantees that we will face them. The dictionary defines a problem as a situation, person, or thing that requires attention and must be addressed or resolved. By that definition, everyone—even babies—has problems; when something needs attention, babies cry.
In 2 Kings 24, there was a problem in the community. The king of Syria wanted to make war with Samaria. Yet every time he would plan an attack, the man of God, Elisha, would warn the king of Samaria so they would avoid going in that direction. This made the king of Syria believe that he had a spy in his camp. “It’s not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!” (2 Kings 6:12 NLT). That did not deter him; he was determined to fight with Samaria.
There are people today just like the king of Syria; they will not give up their evil ways. Once they have set their minds on doing wrong, they will not allow anyone or anything to deter them. What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry them out, simply because you have the power to do so. (Micah 2:1). There are people today who stay awake and plot evil because their hearts are evil. Do we need to fear their evil plots? Definitely not! Psalm 34:19 says: The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. We don’t have to fear the plans of the wicked.
