Have you ever wanted something so bad that it consumed your thoughts day and night? Your dream is all you can think or talk about. Then, one day, the finish line comes into view! You can hardly believe it is truly happening. You are walking in joy unspeakable and full of glory, thankful that you are finally about to receive what you have long desired.
However, when you look a little closer, you realize that fully walking in that blessing requires effort on your part. Now you must ask yourself: Do I really want to do all of this to receive what I desire? Suddenly, you may realize that you are not willing to do what your dream requires. Joshua 17 describes a situation in which the people wanted a Burger King blessing: they wanted it their way. God had promised them the land, but they still had to fight its inhabitants before they could take possession. They said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one lot and one share to inherit, since we are a great people, inasmuch as the Lord has blessed us until now?” (Joshua 17:14 NLT). Joshua replied, “If you are a great people, then go up to the forest country and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, since the mountains of Ephraim are too confined for you.” (verse 15).
Still, Joshua’s response did not convince them, because they continued to complain about the people who occupied the land. They forgot that God never changes and that His Word always stands true. They were unwilling to fight for what they desired. Sometimes, we can become just like them. We may want something desperately yet remain unwilling to fight because we expect God to do both His part and ours. We cannot possess our blessing until we cast aside that halfhearted mentality and rise up to fight, knowing that God has already given us the victory.
Thought for Today: Friend, be willing to fight.
