Life unfolds through moments of joy and seasons of pain, yet no experience is beyond God’s reach or without purpose in His hands. As one wise person observed, “Problems are a part of life; facing them is an art of life.” The deeper question, then, is not whether challenges will come, but how we will respond when they do. Will we rely on our own strength, or will we turn to the Lord, trusting Him to give us wisdom, courage, and grace? Each of us must answer that question again and again throughout life.
When we look at David’s life, we see a man who faced many troubles. Some came from enemies who opposed him, while others grew out of his own choices. In Psalm 120:2 NLT, he prayed, “Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.” My grandmother used to say, “You can hide from a thief, but never from a liar.” A liar does not need the truth; a liar can invent a story along the way. Yet David did not depend on his own wisdom to resolve the matter. His past experiences had taught him that no problem is beyond God’s power. With confidence, he declared, “I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer” (Psalm 120:1).
God shows no partiality; we have the same access to Him that David had. Although David sometimes felt isolated and alone, he remained confident in the power and presence of his God. That, my friend, is the art of facing life’s challenges with confidence. David knew, “Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side” (Psalm 23:4 MSG). When fear threatened to overwhelm him, he declared, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?” (Psalm 27:1). David did not face his challenges with confidence in himself; he faced them with confidence in God. You can too!
Thought for Today: Friend, in life’s challenges, you can trust God.
