Can you recall a season in your life when everything seemed to be going well? Life feels wonderful in those moments. Yet sometimes we are so accustomed to focusing on the negative that we overlook the blessings of the season we are in.
In life, our seasons are not always clearly defined; we can hold joy in one hand and pain in the other. David experienced this clash of seasons in 1 Samuel 30. When he and his men returned to Ziklag, they found their families gone and their home burned to the ground. Overwhelmed with grief, the men turned against David and spoke of killing him. In a moment, their leader became the target of their anger. But David chose to take his problem to God in prayer. “Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”” (1 Samuel 30:8 NLT). David and his men set out and recovered everything that had been stolen—and more. His season shifted again, and he stood once more as their fearless leader.
Would the outcome have been the same if David had died? Definitely not! Those men did not realize that David’s prayer life held the key to change. He did not need to establish a relationship with God in that moment; he already had a direct line of communication with Him. However, God does not always say yes to the change we desire. Some situations are dangerous and require immediate attention; others call us to trust God, as Paul did when the Lord told him, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Seasons may change, but God’s presence in our lives remains constant.
Thought for Today: Friend, trust God in every season
