Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble. Proverbs 17:17 MSG
Just about everyone in the world is grateful to have a friend. The dictionary defines friend as a person you know well and like a lot, but who is usually not a member of your family. I am blessed to have some good friends in my life who have supported and helped me when I needed help.
When you look at David and Jonathan in the Bible, it’s easy to understand that a friend loves through all kinds of weather. David’s father sent him to check on his brothers who were in the military fighting against the Philistines. When he arrived on the battlefield, and he saw the giant Goliath and inquired about what was happening, his brothers became angry. They had no time for David or his questions.
In contrast, David had a friend in Jonathan. Jonathan was the son of King Saul. David was anointed king and Saul wanted to kill David. But, Jonathan and David were friends. Saul tried his best to get rid of David but Jonathan would not participate with his father’s plan. He proved to be more loyal to David than his brothers.
Proverbs 18:24 says, “There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” While I have some really good friends, there is a friend who sticks closer to me than anyone on this earth. He will not leave me or forsake me. As a matter of fact, John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus is my special friend and He laid down his life for all.
Thought for Today: There’s no friend like Jesus
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
