Listen and Obey

“If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant. Job 36:11 NLT

Parents with young children do their best to raise well mannered children. So as soon as the child begins to speak you can hear these parents teaching the little one to say please and thank you. You will also observe that these children are encouraged to follow the directions of the parents. Some people believe that teaching children to be obedient is old fashioned and has no place in modern parenting. However, obedience teaches children how to function in a societywhere you are expected to obey the laws of the land.

Obedience is not just for children. It is the secret to living a successful, victorious life. This verse says that there are two things you need to do: listen and obey. Now listen is more that hearing sounds. You hear sounds all day long. You don’t listen, you hear. When you listen, you pay attention to the sounds. If it’s the sound of warning, you will stop and take corrective action because you were listening. Proverbs 8:32 tells us, “And so, my children, listen to me, for all who follow my ways are joyful.”

Second, you have to obey. To obey means to act according to commands. So when you listen to the commands and directives in the word of God, then you act on them, that is obedience. God places a high priority on obedience. Deuteronomy 28:1 says, “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.”  People love the easy way to get results. The blessings are for those who obey. When you listen and obey, then you will experience prosperity and pleasantness. In other words, it will be well with you; there are blessings in obedience.

Thought for Today: Friend, God blesses those who are obedient.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
