Clean Before God

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 NLT

Yesterday we looked at moving closer to God. James talked about purifying the heart. David found himself in a predicament.  He examined his life and took a look at his heart. He was unhappy with the condition of his heart. He knew that the situation in his heart made it impossible for God to draw close to him. He did not try to justify his actions but instead he poured out his heart unto the Lord. He knew that the relationship he had with God was in a state of disrepair. He was aware that his actions caused the breach in the relationship so David went to God in prayer.

He did not go saying that I am the king and I can do as I please. His position did mean that he was not accountable for his actions. He was the king but God is not a respecter of persons. The king was just as guilty before God as the ordinary man. David came before God and poured out his heart to Him. He acknowledged his sin. He asked God to purify him from his sin in Psalm 51. In verse 10 he asked God to create in him a clean heart. He understood that sin would separate him from God. God desires to be close to you but that does mean He would overlook your sinful ways. If you desire to be close to God, you have to come to Him with a clean heart.

Thought for Today: Come before God with a clean heart.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
