Move Closer

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. James 4:8 NLT

When you care for someone, you want to keep the individual close. When parents are in a crowd with their small children, they are careful and keep them close. In the same manner, James is saying. Get close to God. In life, you can have a desire to be close to someone who has no desire to be close to you. Their actions and attitude conveys their desire to remain afar off. God is not like that; when you move close to Him; He will move close to you.  Psalm 73: 28 says, “But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do. “

Just as there are conditions for getting close to people, there are conditions for getting close to God. When Joseph was in prison and Pharaoh requested his presence, he didn’t go directly from the prison to the palace. Genesis 41:14 tells us that, “Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he went in and stood before Pharaoh.” He had to prepare himself to go before Pharaoh. In the same way, you have to prepare yourself to go close to God. James says purify your hearts. Like Joseph, there are some things you need to shave and some things you need to change. Preparation is necessary to draw close to God.
