Give Us This Day!

Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 NKJV 

When you think of bread, you think of an item that is a necessary component of life. The bread here is everything necessary to sustain life since God is the one who provides what we need from day to day. This petition tells us that we need to come before God daily as we look to Him for what we need. But what are we asking for? We are asking for bread for the soul and also for the body. We need bread to strengthen us in the inner man. Every day we face new problems, new stresses, new burdens and the bread from yesterday will not make it today so we need new bread for today. We need bread for our daily needs. When we pray for our daily needs we acknowledge that it is God who supplies and not our jobs. 

As we continue to pray and live our lives in this manner this word comes alive in our lives. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” So let us pray in this manner and see what God will do. God will answer and He will give us our daily bread.
