Do It God’s Way

“No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free and remove the chains that bind people. Isaiah 58:6 NLT

Some people fast for Lent, some fast at special seasons of the year and some fast continually throughout the year, But it does not matter when you do it, because there are guidelines set out in the word of God. In Isaiah 58, a lot of directions and directives are given for fasting. It begins with a conversation about what should not happen when you fast. When you fast according to your own rules then God does not take notice. You see there are things God requires from His people. “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12.

So when you fast, God has His requirements. It starts from the inside. You have to change the way you do things; change the way you interact with others.  You have to say no to your way and say yes tom God’s way.  You must have compassion on those around you who are suffering and hurting.  God wants you to free those who are wrongly imprisoned. God is a God of justice; He takes no pleasure when injustice prevails. Whenever you fast, pay attention to those around you. Maybe you might be able to have compassion on someone so you can do what God requires of you.

Thought for Today: When you fast, do it God’s way.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory
