The Love Walk

What is love? Everyone has an answer. Some say it’s the feeling they have for their spouse and children.  For others, it’s the feeling they have for their car and home. Today, you see so many atrocities done in the name of love: love of self, love for country, love of ideology. However, the pain those actions inflict on others can never be guided by love.

When you think about love, what do you say?

If you want to know what love really is, you will have to look elsewhere. Love places the well-being of others ahead of its own. Love would give at the cost of life itself to the giver. In the Bible you discover what true love is.

Long ago humanity found itself in a predicament. God created man and placed him in the perfect environment. Everything needed to live a happy and peaceful life was there. God gave man access to every tree in the garden – but one. Man disobeyed and lost his way. Gone was the fellowship that existed between God and man. Gone was the perfect environment for living. However, God’s love was greater than man’s sin. God found a way to bridge the gap and restore the fellowship lost in the garden.

For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life (John 3:16 TPT).

Yes, God demonstrated what love is: love gives. The benchmark for love is giving.

Man has tried continually to develop a standard of love outside of God. They believe that good deeds will give them favor with God. But when you try to replace love with good works, it falls short. You cannot understand love without God. God’s example of love is your prototype to follow. You have to use the standard set by God to evaluate your love. He set the bar extremely high but it’s attainable with His help.

So how is your Love Walk? The Word of God gives clear directives about your walk as it pertains to your love for God and your love for others. I had to examine my Love Walk.  This is not a test where you need a score of 75 to get a certificate. You have to attain mastery in all the components to love the way God intended.

In the days ahead, you will have an opportunity to examine your Love Walk through the Word of God.  This book also provides practical activities for reflection.  As you engage with the Word, you will be able to identify areas of concern and modify your walk so that your journey can be a Love Walk.
