Glorious Life!

Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor. Proverbs 21:21 NLT

When a parent has to reprimand a child because he or she got in trouble with another child, parents like to say, “Don’t be a follower.” In our society, a follower is viewed in a negative light. You hear all sorts of comments when you are labeled as a follower; some believe you can’t think for yourself; others believe it is a result of low self esteem.  In fact, there are a variety of reasons why someone would choose to follow another.  You should be concerned when someone close to you follows someone whose lifestyle is less than honorable because history is filled with cases of destruction when the leader has low moral standards.

So, it is extremely important to know who or what you are following. The text today says pursue or follow righteousness. Righteousness is an attribute of God; God is righteous.  His actions are just and right.  Simply put, righteousness is a gift from God. You see, man on his own, cannot be right before a holy God. The Apostle Paul explains it this way I Corinthians 5:21, Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.” GNT. Therefore, it’s impossible to be righteous, without Jesus Christ. Jesus lived on this earth and left an example for us. So if your desire is to walk righteously, follow His example.

There are benefits to pursuing righteousness. Proverbs 11:19 says, “Anyone who is determined to do right will live, but anyone who insists on doing wrong will die. You might be wondering how this can be done. Hosea 10:12 says, “Plow new ground for yourselves, plant righteousness, and reap the blessings that your devotion to me will produce. It is time for you to turn to me, your Lord, and I will come and pour out blessings upon you.” Righteousness requires work; to reap a good crop the farmer has to break up the ground before he plants the seed. There are some things in our lives that we need to break up and root out in order to plant the seed of righteousness. Proverbs 4:8 says, “Love wisdom, and she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will bring you honor.” If you pursue righteousness, you will reap life-changing benefits.

Thought for Today: Friend, pursue righteousness and reap rewards.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
