Love Covers

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 NLT

Most parents protect their children at all costs. They would do all they can to shield their children from danger. The most timid parent can become a bear if their child is under attack. There is nothing strange about that because parents love their children. If the child commits an infraction, the parent would scold the child privately but would fight you tooth and nail if you try to say anything negative that child. That is parental love in action. The parent didn’t condone the actions but covered the child from attack.

Sometimes, people confuse condone and cover. Some parents believe that their children don’t engage in wrongdoing, so they will fight you if you even think that their child was involved in some questionable behavior. This is not what Peter is saying here. If your brother commits an infraction, by all means be honest and lovingly point out the error of his way. Explain why his actions can bring harm to his walk of faith; pray and support him on his journey. However, you don’t hold your brother up to public ridicule. When you support him through prayer and good conduct, your deep love just covered him.

This is what God expects from us. The enemy is waiting to tear you to pieces but when you demonstrate Christ’s love to someone who is hurting, you are walking in love. 1 John 2:10 says, “Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.” Life is tough so let’s live in the light and walk in love. Let us treat each other with grace and mercy because there is a possibility that one day, we would need some grace and mercy extended our way.

Thought for Today: Friend, love and cover your brother.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
