Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

When I was a child, I remember the way people had respect for the house of God. If they were using foul language they would stop when they were walking in front of the church building. It appeared, that they believed that they needed to show respect to the building, because God resided there.

The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian Church that their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. The temple is the place where God resides. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, he asked them,  Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” So the same respect that is given to the physical building where God resides should be given to your bodies, because the Holy Spirit resides in you.

When the Spirit of God dwells in you, people will know it. When Pharaoh had a dream that disturbed him, he asked the members of his staff to explain what the dream meant but they couldn’t. When Joseph was brought before Pharaoh and interpreted the dream and gave Pharaoh the recommendations to prepare for the years of plenty and the famine to follow, he asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” Genesis 41:38. Knowing this, Paul wanted the Corinthians to understand the value of the temple of the Holy Spirit and treat their bodies accordingly.

Galatians 3:13 says, “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Galatians 5:The price of your redemption was very high. Therefore, you need to safeguard your temple and keep it clean. Galatians 5:16-23 gives an account of what happens when you allow your sinful nature to dictate your behavior and anyone following that lifestyle would not inherit the Kingdom of God. In contrast, the Holy Spirit produces fruit in your lives. “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.” Verse 24.  So honor God with your body and work to keep your temple clean.

Thought for Today: Friend, your body is a temple; keep your temple holy.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
