So then, let us pursue [with enthusiasm] the things which make for peace and the building up of one another [things which lead to spiritual growth]. Romans 14:19 AMP

Peace! What is peace? The dictionary has a variety of definitions for peace. If you are in emotional turmoil then peace is freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts. If there is discord in your community then peace is a state of mutual harmony between members of the community. If you live in a war zone then peace is the absence of fighting. So it’s easy to understand why most people long for peace in their lives.

So what do you do when you find yourself in a situation that is anything but peaceful? There are so many things that you can do, but the best thing to do is to allow the word of God to direct your actions. That can be difficult because it’s human nature to retaliate. It’s not always easy to examine the situation when you are in the midst of the dispute but when you allow the word of God to impact your life, you can pursue peace.

So how do you proceed? Well if your words or actions would cause more unrest, read 1 Corinthians 14:33 NKJV, For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” That will dictate your words and actions. While the situation might be painful, do your best to avoid confusion. This is what God desires from you. Then others will see you in a new light. “Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God.” Matthew 5:9. That is the best thing anyone can say about you; that you are definitely a child of God.

Thought for Today: Friend, in all things, pursue peace.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
