Revenge Belongs to God

Don’t take revenge, dear friends. Instead, let God’s anger take care of it. After all, Scripture says, “I alone have the right to take revenge. I will pay back, says the Lord.” Romans 12:19 GW

Just about everyone has a story about a time in their life when they were treated unfairly; it’s never easy. But everyone has a different response: some lay awake at night plotting revenge; and that is as far as that goes. Some plot and carry out their plans. Then there are those who walk away and leave it alone. But, God has a response for those who have been wronged; He wants you to leave it to Him.

What is your response? Do you take revenge in your heart even if you don’t take action? Do you inflict hurt or harm on the person who wronged you? Well, while the world would have you take revenge, Jesus has a different response. He said in Matthew 5:38-39, “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’  But I tell you not to oppose an evil person. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn your other cheek to him as well. That is the Kingdom response to those who have wronged you.

You might be saying, “You have no idea what this person did to me.” And you are right, I don’t. But Jesus is not telling you to do something that He was unwilling to do. When He was on a cross, dying for the sins of others, He did not take revenge. He had the ability to speak the word and end it all; He didn’t. His life is an example to all. So He says to you today, “Do not inflict hurt or harm on those who wronged you, turn the other cheek. Leave them to me, I will handle it for you.” So lay aside those plans; turn them over to Jesus. Emotional healing will be yours followed by the peace that passes all understanding.

Thought for Today: Friend, let it go and walk in God’s best.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
