Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
It’s impossible to go through life without a container. Babies need containers to live; their bottles contain their food. They have no idea what their parents are placing in their mouths but their reflexes take over and soon they realize that they are not feeling hungry any more. Adults have many containers; women have a variety of containers and they always seem to leave the house with at least one. Yes, they have a variety of pocketbooks to keep their important items. Even men have their containers; they call them wallets.
So containers come with a variety of names. Some are big like the stadiums and some are small like our homes. In this verse, the Apostle Paul describes the body of a child of God as a temple. Wow! That is the way God views your body; He sees it as a temple. So what is a temple? The dictionary tells us that a temple is a building devoted to worship or regarded as a dwelling place for God. That makes the temple a holy place set aside for God.
When Paul asked this question he was addressing sin in the church. He wanted to impress upon the Corinthian Church the importance of treating their bodies respectfully. That is not just related to sexual sin but it also includes the things you allow into your temple through your eyes, your mouth, and even the places your feet may take you .
The same way you take special care of the valuable items in your life, you need to treat your body as valuable because God sees you that way. That should impact the words out of your mouth; the things you listen to and the places you choose to go. When you understand the importance of your temple, it will change the way you see yourself and the things in your environment. So walk in a manner that demonstrates that your body is the temple of God.
Thought for Today: Friend, honor God with your body.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Let’s keep our bodies holy.
