Pray God’s Way

I have a brother-in-law who lives in Virginia that loves to fish and he makes the best Escovitch Fish!  Needless to say, I love to visit when he is not on the road. When he goes fishing, he needs to know the kind of fish that live in the water and what those fish like to eat so that he can use the appropriate bait. He takes the time to prepare his bait, so that he can be successful on his fishing trip.

We also need to be mindful when we go before God in prayer. Yesterday, we looked at Jesus teaching the people about prayer in Matthew chapter 6; He directed their attention to some poor practices during prayer. However, He also gave them some information on how to pray so that God will listen and respond. Jesus said, “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”  Verse 6 NLT.

Prayer is a private moment between you and God; it is not intended as a public event.  There will be times when you might engage in cooperate prayer but for the most part; your prayer life occurs behind closed doors. Then Jesus gave them a model prayer as a guide. The scholars will tell you that the prayer is divided into seven parts.

When we pray, we direct our prayer to our Father in heaven. He is the one who hears and answers our prayer. While I would not comment on all seven parts, I would like to touch on, “Your will be done.” Many times, we behave like our purpose for prayer, is to change God’s mind. Instead, we need to align ourselves with God’s will, because God will grant our desires as they align to His will for our lives.

The prayer also talks about forgiveness. Psalm 66:18 AMP says, “If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it], The Lord will not hear [me];” So the condition of our heart is important if we want God to answer our prayers. These are some guidelines from the word of God when it comes to prayer. Pray so that God will hear and answer your prayer.

Thought for Today: Friend, be mindful when you pray.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
