Purpose for Your Pain

One of the certainties of life is that some day you will find yourself in some sort of trouble. Now, I’m not talking about legal difficulties and court appearances but trouble like the challenges we face in life. These challenges can be your health, your finances or even your family.

In those times, we need to remember that there is an appropriate and inappropriate response. James 1:2 NLT, tells us, Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” It is never easy to be joyful in the midst of trouble but that is not what the Bible says here. It says to think of it as an opportunity for great joy. Doesn’t that sound crazy? When your world is falling apart you ought to consider it as an opportunity for great joy?

Why? There is a purpose for your pain. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” So if God has a purpose He will cause your pain to work together for your good; giving you an opportunity for great joy.

Verse 3 says, For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” You are like cake batter before the trouble. But the trouble behaves like an oven; it applies heat that produces change. But God in His faithfulness, knows how long to allow the oven situation in your life. Insufficient time will produce undesirable results. Too long and you will have a burnt offering. But the correct temperature with the appropriate time will produce the best results. Why? The time in the oven allowed endurance the opportunity for growth in your life.

So when the issues of life, come your way; have your moment; cry if you must but don’t live in that moment. Dry your eyes and begin to walk in the joy of the Lord; God has purpose for your pain.

Thought for Today: Friend, in every season, praise God.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
