Light is important in our lives. The light of the sun is necessary for life here on the earth. We cannot exist without light. Plants need light to grow; that is important because plants are at the bottom of our food chain. Small fish eats plants and bigger fish eat those small fish. Humans eat animal and animal products; cows eat plants and the cows produce milk. So the sun is an important component of our life here on earth.
The Apostle John understood the power of the light and in 1 John 1:7 NLT he said: “But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” So light is important in the walk of faith because God lives in the light. The light affects our walk.
Light enables us to walk in fellowship with each other. The dictionary defines fellowship as a friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests. For the child of God, it goes a bit deeper than that. As we read the previous verses we see the John gives background leading up to this verse. He didn’t beat around the bush, in verse 6 he said: “So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.”
John was speaking about what he knew; he understood the importance of fellowship. Acts 2:42 tells us; “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.” You see the church began in fellowship.
The writers of Hebrews also promote the fellowship of the believers in chapter 10:25 CEV, “Some people have given up the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord’s coming is getting closer.” I know that we have become a community of virtual fellowship but let us return to the house of the Lord and enjoy the fellowship of the believers.
Thought for Today: Friend, walk in the light and enjoy fellowship.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
God loves our fellowship.
