When you have a problem, you try your best to find a solution. You look to the experts to see what they have to say. Sometimes, they can help you; sometimes, they can’t. When you can get help, it’s wonderful. When the experts are unable to help you then you can become despondent. It becomes even more difficult when the problem involves your child.
In Mark chapter 9, we read about a father who was looking for help for his son. He watched helplessly as his son exhibited destructive behavior. What a predicament as a parent to have a child with these types of issues. The father said that there was a spirit at work in the child’s life with the purpose of ending his life. He just didn’t know what to do.
So he decided to take his son to Jesus; however, he found Jesus’ disciples instead. He explained his problem and was looking to them for help. But, they were unable to help him. When Jesus returned, the father explained his problem; he said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.” (Verses 17-18)
You see he put the desire for help on Jesus. Jesus’ response puts it back on the father. Jesus told him that deliverance is possible if he believed. So many times we look outside of ourselves for our deliverance but our deliverance begins with us: if you believe, anything is possible. Immediately he cried, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
Jesus responded by casting the evil spirit out of the child. His father’s faith in God made the difference in his life. Your faith in God will make the difference in your life and the lives of those connected to you.
Thought for Today: Friend, if you believe, anything is possible.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
