Freedom in Christ

In every heart and life there is a desire for freedom. Some people are struggling to gain political freedom because they have been under the control of another group for too long. History tells the struggles and triumph of people who were successful against their oppressors.

Is political freedom the only freedom that is needed to live a successful life? There is a struggle that resides in the heart of man; it’s the struggle to live a life that pleases God. Why is that a struggle? Isaiah 59:2 NLT says, “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.  Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.” Sin is failure to live in compliance with God’s law. The Bible tells us that, For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Romans 3:23.So the problem with sin is universal.

Why is sin such a problem for man? John 10:10 tells us, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” This tells us that there is an enemy that wants to rob, kill and destroy. Jesus Christ came to give us a satisfying life. We don’t have to do it alone. “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1.

It’s great to know that while we enjoy political freedom; we are grateful to God for sending His Son so we can enjoy freedom from the power of sin. “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” Have a safe and happy Fourth of July.’
