God’s Goodness Remembered

Most of us have gone out of our way at some time or another to show kindness to someone in need and have been forgotten when circumstances improved. It  quite common for people to forget the kindness shown in their moment of need. Sometimes, these actions cause sadness about kindness forgotten. But, when we look at 2 Samuel 7, we see a man who remembered the goodness of God in his life.

David lived and worked as a shepherd taking care of sheep. But God had great plans for David. God took David from leading sheep to leading the nation of Israel. He no longer lived and slept with the sheep in the fields; he was living in the palace. As David reflected on the vast change in his life, he recognized that the change he enjoyed came from God. So, David had a desire to do something great for God; he wanted to build a house for the Ark of God.

However, God had different plans. God decided that David’s son would build the temple. God said,  “Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!” (verses 8-9)

David didn’t build the house but God blessed David for the desire to build His house. Many times, we take from people and accept the goodness of God without thinking about what we can give in return. God blessed David for his desire to build a house for the Ark of God. When God blessed David, David took the time to give thanks to God.

Thought for Today: Friend, in all things, give thanks.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
