The Lord, our Protector

Queen Rania of Jordan said that  “Values are the shields that you carry throughout life, and it protects you from whatever life throws at you.” While it’s important to have values to direct your actions, they cannot shield you from some of the issues of life. Psalm 3:3 NLT says, “But you, O Lord , are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.”

The Lord is my shield. Sometimes, it seems like we take Him for granted. It could be that the word shield, is not a word that is commonplace in the language. A shield is a defensive weapon in warfare  in days of old, when spears were weapons of warfare. You were able to use your shield to protect yourself from the spear.

Now, the weapons of warfare have changed, but the shield has not. The same God who David referred to as a shield in his day of spears is the same God who is our shield in our time of bullets. You see, the shield is not changed by the change of weaponry; it remains the same even though man and his weapons changed. Back then, your shield was one-sided. It could only protect one area of your body at a time. The Lord, our shield, is not like that; His protection surrounds us. Psalm 91 talks about our shield. Verses 5-6 tells us  “Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.” We do not have to walk in fear.  Our God, Elohim, is a shield around us; He is our protector.

Thought for Today: Friend, our faithful God is our protector.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
