The Power of Persistent Prayer

The most heartbreaking issue in the life of a parent is sickness in the life of a child. There is a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness when we are unable to help our children in their season of pain and suffering. We would do all in our power to see that simile return to the face of our child.

In Matthew 15, we meet a woman with a sick child. She was not a member of the community, but the stories of healing in the lives of many individuals was not lost on her. She sought help from those around her, but her daughter’s condition remained unchanged. Today, she decided to seek Jesus. Verse 15 NLT says, “A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.” She took the effort to address this man as respectfully. Jesus did not respond, and the disciples wanted her to leave.

What do you do when you come before God, and the heaven seems shut up? Sometimes, we become discouraged, but this woman recognized that her daughter’s life was at stake. She was not going to give up. Finally, Jesus replied, and it was not the response she was looking for. Jesus said, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.” (Verse 24) What would you do? Would you say that you must find another source of help? “But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!” (Verse 25).

This woman made up her mind that she would not leave Jesus’ presence without the answer she was seeking. “Jesus responded, “It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”She replied, “That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.” (Verses 26-27) She was persistent; she was not about to give up. She knew that Jesus had the power to bring the change she needed. When Jesus heard her response, “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.” If like this woman, you have a situation that needs change, keep your faith strong and watch Jesus bring the change you desire.

Thought for Today: Friend, be persistent in prayer.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
