Can you remember when you were a child and your parents would say, “Stay right here!” It might be that they had to retrieve something, and they believe that you would be safer a few footsteps away. They would look at you and say, “Stay here!” Some children, those of us who did not like getting punished, would not move. Then, there are the adventurous type, who would bolt as soon as their backs were turned.
When adults tell children to remain or stay in the same place, they have their reasons. They want the children to be safe; there are benefits when we stay in the same place. In John 15:7 LB, Jesus told His disciples that there were benefits when they remained in Him. It says, “But if you stay in me and obey my commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! Jesus wanted His disciples to understand that their relationship and lifestyle mattered.
You see, when someone looks at your life and listens to the words out of your mouth, they have a pretty good idea about the kind of person you are. However, if you reman in that place where God is, His words will become part of you; and it will transform you from the inside out. As a result, you will be obedient to God’s word. It doesn’t mean that you will get things right all the time, but your lifestyle would reflect the character of God.
Then the benefit, “you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!” 1 John 2:24 says, “So keep on believing what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will always be in close fellowship with both God the Father and his Son.” When you remain, you can come boldly before God in prayer and ask and your answer would be granted. When you remain, your request will be aligned with the word of God. God answers prayers that are aligned with His will.
