When we think of the things we need to survive, food is usually high on the list. Babies are not aware of what food is, but they know when it is needed in their bodies. When they feel hungry, they begin to cry because food is necessary for survival. It is the same with the word of God; it’s food for our souls.
Psalm 119:103 NLT tells us, “How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.” David said that he could taste the word of God. When we talk about taste, we talk about things we enjoy. When we prepare meals for young children, many times they are reluctant to eat. We usually tell them to taste it because they might like it. In other words, if they taste it might give them pleasure. When David said that God’s word taste sweet, it tells us that he found pleasure in the word of God.
So, the word of God is food for our souls. In Jeremiah 15:16 we read, “When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.” Jeremiah said that he devoured the word of God. The dictionary defines devour as to eat up greedily or ravenously. We can see that there was a deep desire in his heart for the things of God.
Why did David and Jeremiah talk about God’s word in this manner? They had a deep desire for the word of God. There was a passion, and that passion was evident in their language. When Jesus was teaching the people in Matthew 5:6 He said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” The word of God is like good food; if we hunger and thirst after God and His word, we will be filled. David told his contemporaries: “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8)
Thought for Today: Friend, God fulfills our desires.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Oh yes! Taste and See God’s goodness and His love. Thank you Lotd.
