God’s No Changed his Story!

spirits caused by loss of hope or courage. Sometimes the most unlikely people experience this feeling of despondency. What can hap[pen in a life to generate that feeling?

Well Elijah had an experience that left him feeling despondent. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah exposed the false prophets of Baal. Elijah challenged the false prophets of Baal to set up a sacrifice with wood and pray to their god to send fire, and he would do the same. They prayed for hours but no fire, Elijah soaked his sacrifice with water, prayed a short prayer and God sent fire to burn up the sacrifice. When all the people saw it, they fell face downward; and they said, “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” (1 Kings 18:39 AMP). When King Ahab returned home, he told his wife all that transpired and blamed Elijah for the prophets who died at Mt. Carmel. She became angry and threatened Elijah with death. Jezebel had a history of killing God’s prophets. Elijah prayed; “It is enough; now, O Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” (1 Kings 19:4). God said no to Elijah’s unwise prayer.

Sometimes the pressures of life can leave you feeling despondent just like Elijah. At this moment, Elijah found himself worn out from his ministry work and was by himself. So, God sent a ministering angel to minister to Elijah. Since Elijah’s mission was still unfinished, the angel provided him with food, comfort, and sent him forward on his journey. What about you? Are you feeling despondent? God does not change. Instead of praying unwisely, ask God to strengthen you during your period of despondency. God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1). God changed Elijah’s story; He can do the same for you.

Thought for Today: Friend, in times of despondency, trust God!
