When Victims Cry Out!

We live in a world today where the unthinkable keeps happening  over and over again. If we are not careful, violence will become the norm and lose its shock value. We are already there. There are so many stories about violence that it has become overwhelming.

Why would one individual take the life of another? The answer to this question blows the mind at times. Well, the first homicide of humankind is recorded in the Bible. Genesis 4 tells us that Adam and Eve had two sons: Cain and Abel. As parents we know that our children are alike and different and that was true for these brothers. Their professions were different: Cain was a farmer while Abel was a shepherd. Both Cain and Abel presented gifts or offerings to the Lord. Cain brought a gift from his crop, but Abel’s gift came from the firstborn  of his flock. God rejected Cain’s offering, but accepted Cain’s and Cain was angry. The Lord asked Cain, “Why are you angry? Why do you look so unhappy? If you do things well, I will accept you, but if you do not do them well, sin is ready to attack you. Sin wants you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:66-7 NCV).

Cain invited his brother to an outing and killed him. Cain was angry at Abel, but the problem was his. He chose to give God what he felt not what God deserved. Instead of correcting his behavior he killed his brother. Today, the motive is the same, misdirected anger. Then the Lord said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground. (Verse 10). I can only image the cry that is coming from the ground today. As a society,  we have lost the value of life. I pray that change will come and there  would not be that loud roar of victim’s blood crying from the ground.

Thought for Today: Friend, let’s pray for change!
