The world as we know is changing; it is becoming increasingly difficult to live the way we did in the past with our resources. Now there is the question of affordability.
The Cambridge Dictionary says that affordability is the state of being cheap enough for people to be able to buy. Today affordability does not talk about the ability to purchase but the inability of families to pay for essential goods and services with the resources available to them. Unfortunately, there will be families who are suffering because they simply can’t live without help and there will also be individuals who show them kindness. Acts 9, talks about a woman, Dorcas, who showed kindness by helping others. When she died, Peter was close, so the sent for him. “The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them.” (Acts 9:39 NLT). She helped families back then, bridge the affordability gap.
Today, we cannot bridge the gap by sewing clothes, but there are other ways we can help others bridge the affordability gap. We have items in our closet that we do not wear; we can donate to a nonprofit that distributes to those in need. We can serve in a pantry or soup kitchen. We can contribute to the Benevolence Fund in our churches. There is a way for everyone to help. Who knows if the help you give today will be the help you might need tomorrow.
Thought for Today: Friend, there is a place of service for you.
