It should be the desire of everyone on planet earth to know God. J. I Packer states: “There’s a difference between knowing God and knowing about God. When you truly know God, you have energy to serve Him, boldness to share Him, and contentment in Him.” In other words, our lifestyle reflects our relationship with him.
What does it mean to serve God? The dictionary defines “serve” as owing allegiance, giving help, or being in service to someone. When we speak of serving God, the meaning goes deeper: it includes obedience to God and His Word, offering worship, and walking in humility and love toward others. Robert K. Greenleaf coined the term “servant leader,” explaining, “The servant-leader is servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.” In the life of Jesus, we see servant leadership clearly. He described this to His disciples in Luke 22:27 NLT: Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves. Knowing God leads to a life of service.
Our service requires that we share the Good News of the gospel. Jesus said, Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19). When Peter and John were threatened because they preached the gospel, so they took the time to pray. “After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31). Like Peter and John, we too can share the Good News with boldness; when we know God, He makes a difference in our life.
