When you live in uncertain times, you need to have a place to find help and strength. Everyday seems to unleash new problems and new struggles. You look to those you respect to for support, but they need support for themselves. You look to the leaders of the land and although they are trying their best, they don’t have all the answers you need. So where do you go when you face the uncertainties of life? When life is uncertain you can turn to God.
Isaiah 43:1-2 says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” When you look at these verses you can hear God speaking to you. There are really powerful truths in these verses.
You see, God knew that there would be days like these when fear would overtake the countries of the world, so the discourse begins with, “Do not be afraid.” He is not saying, “I don’t think you should be afraid you know.” He said, “Do not. It’s not open for discussion. Isaiah 41:10 clearly says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” That means your God can handle your battles. So in these uncertain times, you don’t have to be afraid.
You name tells people who you are. When you meet someone for the first time, the first thing you do is exchange names. A phone number without a name attached is useless. So God says that He called you by name. He knows exactly who you are. The God of Heaven is so concerned about you, He takes the time to call by name. Moses experienced that in Exodus 33:17, “The LORD replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”

God knew that you will face many challenges in this life, so He gave some assurances in His Word. When difficulties flow into your life like a river, you will not drown. Sometimes, it feels like the difficulties are about to devour you, but don’t be afraid, you will not drown. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” So God is able to bring good, out of the difficulties you face.
Then there are some things that come into your life that are so rough, they feel like fire. The heat of your situation is so intense; you feel that the flames will consume you. But God has a word for that. He said that those hardships may be rough but they will not burn you up. There is hope. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” You can survive those situations that feel like intense flames.
So as you go through life, you will have days that are beautiful that make you happy; and some days that are so rough, they might derail you. But during the days when the skies seem like a day without a ray of sunshine, remember Deuteronomy 20:4 says, “For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!” You can trust His promises because He is a faithful God.
