Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage. Psalm 23:4 GW
There are many people in your life that you only see when life is good. When you experience a hardship or some difficult times, they are missing in action. In other words, they are fair weather friends. I’m quite sure David had some friends like that. Some situations can be so dark that you find yourself in emotional despair, the valley of the shadow of death.
That is not a pleasant place but David found out that his Shepherd did not abandon him when life became difficult; this inspired confidence in the shepherd. When David reflected on his valley of the shadow of death experiences, he said in Psalm 20:7,” Some rely on chariots and others on horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord our God.” During those times, those who depend on their own strength lose heart.
David knew that in those times, he was not alone. When your shepherd is with you, there is no reason to fear. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you go through the sea, I am with you. When you go through rivers, they will not sweep you away. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, and the flames will not harm you.” No need to fear the valley of the shadow of death because you are not alone.
Thoughts for Today: Here is the reading for verse 3
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory
I thank God that we are never alone. No matter how dark it may get, He will always be with us. We serve an awesome God, a good Shepherd and a loving Father. Amen.
