Your Secret Place

But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God, praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6 TPT

In the beginning of this chapter, Jesus had a discussion about doing good to gain a reputation. Many charitable events are staged to show case the kindness of an individual or an organization. There are many organizations and individuals who give from a large heart anonymously. Jesus said that those who give to be seen have no reward from God. Then Jesus began to talk about prayer. While it’s always good to pray, you must be careful that you don’t engage in the wrong kind of prayer. So how do you identify the wrong kind of prayer? In verse 5 Jesus said, “Whenever you pray, be sincere and not like the pretenders who love the attention they receive while praying before others in the meetings and on street corners. Believe me, they’ve already received their reward.”

Instead, when you pray, go into your private place; a place where you can be alone with God. In that secret place, you don’t need any fancy words to impress God. In your secret place you pour out your innermost thoughts and desires before Him. You acknowledge that you are nothing on your own but you are who you are because of the goodness and faithfulness of God. That is the kind of prayer that God desires. When you spend time in that secret place of prayer, then God will hear and answer your prayer. When you get ready to pray, go into you secret closet and watch God reward you openly.

Thought for Today: Pray in your secret place.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
