Living Through Trials

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 NIV

Trials! I have never met anyone who is happy when that word describes what is happening in their life. It’s a word that makes you think of pain and suffering.  Many experiences have crossed your path that had the potential to shake you to your core. So what do you do when life is harsh and painful? In those moments of extreme pain, you don’t have to cave in; you can trust in God.

Life’s trials do not mean that God has abandoned you. Sometimes the hardship you experienced could be the result of something totally out of your control. In Job 1:8, God asked a question and gave some details about an honorable man. He said, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” That was the beginning of Job’s problems.  God’s recommendation made him a target of the enemy. He lost everything that was dear to him in his life. When his wife looked at his condition, she felt he was better off dead.

In the midst of all these things, Job continued to wait on God. However, the people who were close to him made his situation more painful.  Trials are difficult but there are many self appointed experts whose ministry is to make you aware of the error of your way; just like Job’s friends who made his burden heavier. God is aware of what is happening in your life. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13. Keep trusting in God; He will reward those who endure to the end.

Thought for Today: Friend, in your most difficult moments, trust God.
