All day long I’ll praise and honor you, O God, for all that you have done for me. Psalm 71:8 TLB
How many times have you extended yourself to others and they have forgotten your kindness? It happens more often than you think. There are many stories that people tell about how forgetful people are or can become. While you are extending yourself to meet their needs, you are the best. But once they no longer need your help, you have no value. This experience is not limited to a specific group or culture; I believe it’s part of the human experience.
In this Psalm, David is an old man and he is having some difficulty; his enemies were still plotting against him. In verse 2 he prayed, “Save me from my enemies, for you are just! Rescue me! Bend down your ear and listen to my plea and save me. “The season of his life changed but the issues of his life remained constant; he had enemies who were plotting to do him harm. Many view your older years as a time of peace and joy but the reality is that life is a challenge at any age. The issues may change but the challenges remain.
So David reflected on his life and recognized the faithfulness of God; he recalled that from an infant God had been with him. Verse 7 says, “My success—at which so many stand amazed—is because you are my mighty protector.” He had many battles but also great successes. He acknowledged God as the source of his success and so his response was to praise God. So as you read through the book of Psalms, you see so many instances where David praised God. In his youth he faced many enemies, but when God rescued him, he praised God in Psalm 18:49 says, “For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations.”
Now that he is old, his God didn’t age with him; God does not change and His power remains the same. So in his old age he can trust the God of his youth. In every season of your life, your enemies are waiting like a lion to pounce on you, but God is with you. David was confident in the ability of God to rescue him, that he concluded with, “I will talk to others all day long about your justice and your goodness. For all who tried to hurt me have been disgraced and dishonored.” Verse 24. In your season of life, God will remain faithful to you.
Thought for Today: Friend, God does not change.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Thank God He remains constant. Circumstances change, people will change, I myself waiver but God remains the same. Hallelujah, thanks be to God in whom I trust. 🙏
